Ulement is based in Penang today, but many of our clients are still in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
We were previously based in Ampang before moving to Penang years ago. The office moved, but our work with companies in the Klang Valley continued. In fact most of our clients are from the Klang Valley.
We also work with clients outside Malaysia.
Over the years, we have found that location is rarely the deciding factor for a website project. Clients are more concerned about whether they can trust the team, whether the work will be done properly, and whether the company will still be around after the website launches.
That is where most of our business comes from.
Most clients come through trust
We do not spend much on advertising.
Most new clients come through word of mouth, Google, or recommendations from hosting providers.
Word of mouth has been one of our strongest sources of work for years. Clients recommend us because they know how we work. We try to solve problems properly, communicate honestly, and take responsibility for the work.
One thing we have noticed over the years is that clients often move to another company and come back to us later. Sometimes they change jobs and bring us into their new organisation. Sometimes they simply remember that working with us was straightforward and reliable.
For us, that says more than any marketing campaign.
Why hosting providers recommend us
Some of our strongest referrals also come from hosting providers.
They know how we work and they know we are reliable.
This is particularly important when they introduce us to an enterprise client. The hosting provider is putting its own reputation behind that recommendation, so they need to know that the development team will communicate properly, handle the work responsibly, and not create another problem for the client.
They also know that not every website problem is a server problem.
A company may contact its hosting provider because the website is slow or unstable. The issue could be WordPress, a plugin, custom code, the database, or simply how the website was built.
We can work with the hosting provider to find the actual problem instead of having both sides blame each other.
That working relationship has led to many referrals over the years.
We work with established websites
Most of the projects that come to us are not brand-new websites.
They are websites that have been around for years.
There may be a large amount of content, existing Google rankings, integrations, analytics, and internal publishing processes. A website revamp needs to improve the website without unnecessarily breaking everything that already works.
That is why much of our work involves corporate and enterprise website revamps, WordPress rebuilds, CMS migrations, SEO-sensitive redesigns, performance improvements, security, and ongoing website management.
Some of this work is published in our case studies. Much of our enterprise work cannot be shown publicly because of NDAs.
Does your website agency need to be in KL?
Eleven years after moving from Ampang to Penang, we would say no.
These days, many clients prefer online meetings because they are simply more efficient. Marketing, IT, management, and vendors can join the same discussion without everyone spending half a day travelling for a one-hour meeting.
The website itself is online. So are the staging site, designs, testing, and approvals.
We have clients we have worked with for years whom we have never met in person.
We also work with clients outside Malaysia in the same way.
When a face-to-face meeting is useful, we can still meet in Kuala Lumpur.
Working with companies across Malaysia
Ulement has been building and managing websites since 2008.
We used to be in Ampang. Today we are based in Penang. Our clients are in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, elsewhere in Malaysia, and overseas.
After 11 years of working this way, location is not something we think about very much.
Most clients come to us because someone they trust recommended us, because they found us through Google, or because they have worked with us before.
