Keep the content. Rework the foundation.

WordPress rebuild & builder migration

Keep WordPress while replacing a legacy theme, fragile layouts, or builder dependencies that make updates difficult. We move useful content into a maintainable build, preserve important URLs, and test the replacement on staging.

A WordPress rebuild, not a copy of the old problems

Many older WordPress websites were assembled from a multipurpose theme, demo content, overlapping plugins and years of local fixes. The site may still work, but editing depends on shortcodes, unused features add weight and one update can affect several parts of the website.

Moving that installation to another host does not correct the underlying structure. We rebuild the templates and content model, reduce avoidable dependencies, then migrate the useful content into a WordPress system that your team can manage.

This service keeps WordPress and replaces its technical debt. If you are moving from another CMS such as Drupal, Joomla or Liferay, see platform migration. A hosting transfer on its own is not part of this service.

When to migrate

When to replace a legacy WordPress theme or page builder

Content depends on a discontinued or ageing builder

Disabling it exposes shortcodes or breaks page layouts.

The ThemeForest theme controls too much

Content, layout, plugins and styling are tied together, making routine changes risky.

Editors cannot update the site confidently

Simple changes require a developer because templates and content are not clearly separated.

Performance work has reached its limit

Caching cannot compensate for unnecessary scripts, styles and database overhead.

Where the information architecture, user journeys or visual system also need to change, the work should begin as a website redesign. If approved designs already exist and only require production, use web development.

Scope of works

What the WordPress migration service covers

Legacy website audit

We inventory themes, builders, plugins, custom code, content types, integrations and indexed URLs. This identifies what can be retained, what must be rebuilt and what should be removed.

Lightweight WordPress rebuild

Reusable templates and components replace the old multipurpose theme. The destination may use native WordPress blocks or a lightweight framework selected around editorial needs, accessibility and long-term maintenance.

Structured content migration

Pages, posts, media, metadata and important content are moved into clean fields, blocks and custom post types. Visual Composer and WPBakery shortcodes are resolved rather than left dormant in the database.

Controlled launch

The new website is built on an isolated, non-indexed staging environment. It is tested, reviewed and approved before production changes. The cutover includes a rollback route and post-launch checks.

Search and performance

SEO, performance and editorial control

For a domain change, major URL restructure or higher-risk search migration, we add a dedicated website migration SEO audit.

Search visibility

A pre-migration crawl records existing URLs, titles, headings, metadata, internal links and indexation signals. Changed URLs are mapped to direct redirects, while canonical tags, XML sitemaps, structured data and multilingual annotations are checked before launch.

Performance

The rebuild removes unused theme features and reduces reliance on broad plugin bundles. Templates, media and front-end assets are tested against agreed performance requirements. A lighter build improves the conditions for good Core Web Vitals, but performance still depends on content, integrations and hosting.

Editorial control

Reusable blocks, defined fields and custom post types give editors clear places to manage content. Service, location, product or article can be updated as content rather than reconstructed as a page layout each time.

Process

Our WordPress migration process

01

Audit and define

We crawl the live website, document its dependencies and agree what must remain stable. The audit establishes the URL inventory, template count, content types, integrations and approval route.

Pre-migration audit

02

Rebuild on staging

We create the destination theme, templates, reusable components and content structures away from the live website. Staging remains blocked from search engines.

03

Migrate and validate

Content and media are moved into the new structures. We check pages against the source, test forms and integrations, review internal links and resolve defects through user acceptance testing.

04

Launch and monitor

After approval, we complete the final content sync and controlled cutover. Redirects, analytics, forms, search access, sitemaps and error logs are checked again after launch.

Deliverables

WordPress migration deliverables

The exact deliverables depend on what the audit finds. We do not assume every legacy plugin or layout should be carried into the new website.

  • Legacy theme, page builder and plugin audit
  • URL, template and content inventory
  • Lightweight WordPress theme and reusable components
  • Structured content types and editorial fields
  • Migrated pages, posts, media and SEO metadata
  • Redirect map for every changed URL
  • Staging, browser and user acceptance testing
  • Launch, rollback and post-launch verification plan
  • Editor training and an owner’s manual

SCOPE AND COST

WordPress migration cost and timeline in Malaysia

4 to 8 weeks

Focused theme or builder migration

For a corporate website with a limited number of templates, stable content and a direct approval route.

12 to 30 weeks

Institutional or multilingual rebuild

For websites with several audiences, custom content types, regional versions, integrations, formal user acceptance testing or substantial content correction.

We confirm scope, responsibilities and timing after the technical and content inventory. Client review time, content preparation and third-party access can affect the programme.

COMMON QUESTIONS

WordPress Migration FAQs

Is this the same as moving WordPress to another host?

No. This service replaces a legacy theme, page builder or content structure while the website remains on WordPress. A server or hosting transfer can be coordinated where required, but it does not solve theme and builder dependency by itself.

Will the website look different after migration?

It can retain the current appearance or adopt an approved new design. We define that before the build. If the project needs new navigation, user journeys and a new visual system, it is a website redesign with migration included.

Can the old page builder be removed?

Yes, once all dependent templates and content have been rebuilt and verified. We do not remove it from the live website until staging has passed testing and the final content migration is complete.

Will migration affect Google rankings?

Any substantial website change carries some search risk. Preserving useful content, stable URLs, metadata and internal links reduces avoidable loss. Where URLs must change, each one needs an intentional redirect. No supplier can guarantee unchanged rankings.

Do you migrate Visual Composer or WPBakery content?

Yes. We map the layouts and content, rebuild reusable patterns and remove shortcode dependency from migrated pages. Custom elements are assessed individually because some require replacement development rather than direct conversion.

Can you migrate a multilingual WordPress website?

Yes. Language relationships, regional URLs, canonical tags and hreflang annotations are included in the migration plan. The primary site should be stable before regional versions are launched.
