A government-linked company under Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance was operating an outdated Liferay portal.

The portal had been treated as a large library of documents rather than a platform built around user needs. Information was difficult to understand, difficult to navigate and not organised around clear user intent.

A pre-revamp audit also found poor security, an outdated hosting environment, an unmanaged web server and hard-coded content. Even regular updates required technical assistance.

Make complex information useful to visitors

The portal needed to help people understand the organisation’s services and find the next relevant step. Moving to WordPress was part of that work: content and navigation were reorganised around user needs, with clearer English and Malay copy and reusable publishing structures.

Rebuilding the content architecture

We migrated the portal away from Liferay and rebuilt it from scratch on a modern WordPress architecture.

The new platform used reusable templates, custom post types and custom fields. This allowed the client’s team to manage content more easily without manually rebuilding every page.

The information architecture was reorganised around user journeys. Related content was connected, navigation was simplified and the English and Malay content was rewritten in clearer language.

The website was no longer simply displaying documents. It helped users find relevant information, understand it and take the next step.

Security, SEO and performance

We completed penetration testing, hardened WordPress and improved server management and security controls.

Semantic SEO and structured data helped search engines understand the website’s content and relationships. Existing URLs were reviewed and redirected where necessary.

The website was also optimised for performance, Core Web Vitals and high-traffic use.

Launch monitoring and results

After launch, we monitored redirects, server responses, security controls, performance, Core Web Vitals and enquiry journeys.

Within six months, tracked website enquiries increased by 330%. The organisation also achieved its highest scorecard result in its industry.

Ongoing maintenance continues to support security, performance, retainer for content / website updates and the long-term stability of the platform.
